How AI eliminated my job and then reinvented it

For a period of about ten years, I was involved in the design and production of videos in the field of aviation. Part of the work involved filming planes in flight. This is called air-to-air photography.

In a few seconds, it looked like this:

I will now try to convince you that AI is so advanced that as a creative, I must adapt TODAY. Because in the coming months, clients and businesses will realize what it is possible to generate.

Here is my demonstration. I will co-produce, with AI, a photoshoot for the Bombardier Global 8000. I believe you will be amazed.

First, I ask my partner, the very recent GPT-4 from OpenAI, what its knowledge of air-to-air photography is.

Impressive. That's quite accurate.

Now that with GPT-4 it is possible to share a much larger INPUT of data, I have the opportunity to give it a specialty, to teach it about any subject:

So, I provided the AI with technical articles on the art of air-to-air photography.

Here is its response:

The brief is complete and even mentions which Canon lenses will be used... But it's for a shoot with human beings, and I'm aiming for something else.

Now I need to "educate" GPT-4 on the client's aircraft:

At this stage, I give it the entire marketing documentation of the Global 8000 as INPUT. Then, taking into account everything that is important to the client (communicated by their marketing team), I ask the AI to prepare a list of 10 essential photos, as they will emotionally and technically communicate what this aircraft represents:

That's great work:

Let's go for shot 1:

That's thorough!

At this stage, a huge team takes care of shooting these shots. It's COMPLEX. It looks like this:

Instead of going on a shoot, we will launch the Discord app and join the Midjourney V5 servers...

*** Important note *** I know Bombardier planes very well. I am aware of the visual errors in the renders that follow. But I will tell you at the end how to remedy this.

With version 5 of Midjourney, natural language works wonderfully, and that's what I'm going to do. For some shots, I simply copied the complete brief from GPT-4. Sometimes I simplified a bit. I take a break to think about the fact that it's here GPT-4 giving instructions to Midjourney's AI... 🤔

Let's go!

Sunrise Takeoff

/imagine Objective: Capture the Global 8000 during takeoff with the sunrise in the background, emphasizing the early morning light reflecting off the aircraft's sleek exterior and highlighting the innovative Smooth Flĕx Wing design, f/8 to f/11, ISO 100. 8k --v 5

Sunrise Takeoff / Capture the Global 8000 during takeoff with the sunrise in the background, emphasizing the early morning light reflecting off the aircraft's sleek exterior and highlighting the innovative Smooth Flĕx Wing design.

High Altitude Cruise

Showcase the aircraft cruising at high altitude with a clear sky, demonstrating the impressive range capabilities and the GE Passport engines. Use a telephoto lens to capture the aircraft in detail against the vast sky.

Banking Turn

Photograph the Global 8000 in a banking turn, with the sun to the side or behind the aircraft, casting shadows and illuminating the wing's curvature. This shot emphasizes maneuverability and the distinctive wing design.

Above Clouds

Capture the aircraft above a cloud deck during the golden hour, with sunlight glinting off the fuselage and wings. This shot highlights the aircraft's ability to fly long distances in various weather conditions.

Formation Flight

Photograph the Global 8000 in formation with another aircraft to emphasize its speed and agility. Use the lead aircraft as a reference point for scale and composition, preferably during the first or last light of the day.

Sunset Landing

Capture the Global 8000 landing during the sunset, with the runway lights illuminating the aircraft's undercarriage and landing gear. This shot demonstrates the aircraft's ability to perform on short runways and in various weather conditions.

The most important thing to mention is that Midjourney WAS NOT SPECIFICALLY TRAINED on images of the Global 8000. All these renders come only from its "explorations" on the internet.

The next step would be to train an AI model on your specific data/images. Your company would then be able to create tailor-made content whenever it wants, according to the needs of each department.

At a minimum, for creativity, inspiration, or brainstorming, no one can deny what the AI process I just demonstrated brings. Moreover, nothing prevents us from testing ideas. AI is always up for it.

For example, while "discussing" with GPT-4 about a concept plane for the year 2100, our exchanges concluded with this prompt:

Product shot/Professional air-to-air photoshoot featuring a cutting-edge, futuristic passenger aircraft designed in the year 2100. The scene should be set during daytime, with the aircraft soaring effortlessly through clear blue skies. The design of the aircraft should emphasize its advanced technology, sleek lines, capturing the essence of futuristic travel.

The results:

The essence of futuristic travel

Other tests:

The field of AI-assisted creativity is deeply fascinating and progressing at a dizzying speed. I consider myself lucky to be working in such an era.
